ABSTRAK
Produksi crude palm oil (CPO) di Indonesia mencapai 49 juta ton tahun
2021 yang dapat di proses menjadi biodiesel. Tahun 2022 gabungan pengusaha
ABSTRACT
Production of crude palm oil (CPO) in Indonesia reached 49 million tons
in 2021 which can be processed into biodiesel. In 2022, the Indonesian palm oil
association estimates that the portion of CPO will become biodiesel as much as
43% of domestic CPO consumption. In the biodiesel production process, a catalyst
is needed to speed up the reaction. Kijing clam shells are one of the ingredients in
making catalysts because they contain calcium oxide (CaO) from the calcination
process. However, CaO catalyst has the disadvantage of easily reacting with air so
that it can decrease catalyst activity. Therefore, KOH is added to increase catalyst
activity. In the manufacture of catalysts using the sol gel method which is carried
out with four stages of hydrolysis, condensation, maturation and drying. The
purpose of this study is to determine the effect of KOH/CaO catalyst from sol gel
method on CPO-based biodiesel synthesis process with variations in oil mole ratio:
methanol 1:7, 1:9, 1:11, 1:13, 1:15 and transesterification time variations of 60,
90, 120, 150 and 180 minutes with 1% (w/w) catalyst, at 60°C. Optimum yield
results were obtained at variations in the ratio of oil moles: methanol 1:9 and
transesterification time of 180 minutes of 64%. From the results of density analysis
of 0.86 g / mL, kinematic viscosity of 4.4 cSt, moisture content of 0.04% has met the
SNI 7182: 2015 biodiesel quality standard except for the methyl ester content of
86.65%.
