ABSTRACT

In accordance with the rules of watch keeping service that have been established on board the ship based on STCW 1978 amendment 2010, all ships are obliged to carry out the duty of care without exception. The success of the cruise to reach its destination safely without accident and on time depends heavily on the ability and performance of human resources on board, especially the officers who carry out watch keeping. This study aims to find out how the implementation of watch keeping duty in accordance with STCW 1978 amendment 2010. The writing method used is a qualitative method that generates descriptive data. The results showed that the implementation of the duty of care on the ship has not been carried out properly. There are still irregularities in the procedures of watch keeping. The implementation of guard duties must be applied in accordance with STCW 1978 amendment 2010, so that there is no deviation of procedures watch keeping duty on board.
