ABSTRACT
ABSTRACT (Inggris)
Indonesia is the largest palm oil producing country in the world, on the
other hand it is also the largest producer of plastic waste. From the statement both
are the same as producing a waste which is a problem for the environment. The
purpose of this study was to determine the optimum strength and water absorption
of concrete bricks (paving block) using shredded LDPE plastic waste, namely used
gallon caps as a substitute for palu sand. Concrete brick (paving block) with the
composition of cement and palu sand is 1 : 4 with a phase of 0,24. The LDPE type
of plastic waste used 6 variations consisting of 0%, 2,5%, 5%, 7,5%, 10%, and
12,5% of the total volume of palu sand. The parameters of the tests carried out on
concrete bricks (paving block) with ages used were 7, 14, 21, and 28 days for the
compressive strength test, while for the flexural strength and water absorption tests
only 28 days. The test results obtained for the optimum compressive strength found
in the 0% plastic variation of 14,427 MPa including C quality, while for the
optimum flexural strength found in the 0% plastic variation of 8,906 MPa and with
a minimum water absorption of 8,785% including C quality.
