    ABSTRACT
Machine oil waste itself is B3 waste (Dangerous and Toxic Goods) and is included in the category of liquid B3 waste which contains a lot of heavy metals, one of which is iron (Fe). The waste engine oil to the environment is often ignored because waste it is considered no longer has added value. Lignite coal or commonly called low rank coal is coal with low quality and low efficiency so that this type of coal is not widely marketed. This study aims to make activated carbon from low rank coal as an agent for absorbing impurities from engine oil waste. The method used in this research is adsorption using activated carbon from low rank coal as adsorbent. The independent variable used in this study was the mass of the adsorbent, namely 0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% and 50%. Activated carbon of low rank coal was then analyzed for its proximate content and iodine adsorption capacity, obtained water content of 1.05%; Ash content of 4.47%; volatile matter content of 24.07%; fixed carbon content of 70.41%; and iodine adsorption capacity of 631.5947 mg/g. The adsorption results were filtered and the filtrate was measured for viscosity and specific gravity. From this research, it was found that the optimum mass of activated carbon of coal was 40%.
